MIDLANDS HEAT

There's no doubting that evening heats of the Serco Kids' Lit Quiz really rock. The venue was packed with teams and over 200+ spectators filled the sides of the room. There was a feeling of literary expectation and the final result confirmed just how close all the teams were bunched together.
Mark Robson attended and gave away copies of his books to lucky kids able to answer his questions. All the other team prizes were generously donated by Macmillan Publishers.
The team from Scholastic UK competed well for the first five rounds but then faded after the break. The top team though was Blue Coat followed by the two teams from Finham Park School.
Fun festive night.
Happy Reading

I was one of the spectators at the Midlands heat and it was the first time I've been to a Kids' Lit Quiz event. Congratulations on running such a well organised evening - the children loved it and it was great fun for parents too. Thanks too to Mark Robson for signing books at the end with such good humour!

I would just like to add my thanks to all the teams for making the trip to Coventry and all the parents, supporters and librarians who helped make it happen. It was a fantastic achievement for Blue Coat school to retain their title and we wish them all the best for the national final but it was such a close fight for the second and third places it was a real nail biting climax! Scholastic Book Fairs are to be congratulated on their book knowledge but they do need a crash course in Tolkein and Harry Potter- they were no match for our young enthusiasts! Thanks too to the Ricoh Arena- without their support we would not be able to afford such a glamorous big venue. See you all next year- keep reading!
